What's It Likes Bragging Rights

This week has seen the birth of our bragging rights section where you can post a screenshot of your best moment in gaming. Things started to heat up today on Facebook when a fellow gamer posted a very impressive screenshot of a long distance headshot only to be outdone moments later!
The original shot took place at 1005m in the sublime Battlefield 3. Moments later a fellow gamer posted this screenshot besting the previous record by 280m!
Now can anyone outdo both these commendable efforts? Head over to our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/SOGwhatsitlike) and share your best headshot on Battlefield 3. Don't Play BF3? Then suggest what the next bragging rights entry should feature!

Time to dust of the 'ol rifle and head to Sharqui Penninsula.

Pokemon News Update

Nintendo announce 1 new Pokemon, It's not very effective...

CoriCori Magazine in Japan has confirmed the big Pokemon news this week is simply another Eevee evolution called Ninfia. Gamers were hoping to see a reveal of new game areas and gameplay but were dissapointed to find they announced 1 new Pokemon. Ninfia's type and moves are so far unknown as little details aside from its name have been announced.

In related news, a follow up to Pokemon Rumble will be coming out on the Wii U eshop soon. No details have been released but we will update you as soon as we find out any details.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Review

Tag, You're it!

*This review covers all formats*
Tekken. If you have never heard of it then you probably found this site by accident. If you're a gamer you will know that it is one of the most popular fighting franchises in video gaming history, but does that make it the best? Read on...

Tekken Tag 2 is all about the "King of Iron Fist Tournament." Fighters from around the world duke it out to be crowned champion of the tournament. The story doesn't really matter however as it has been the same for the past 7 main installments, what really matters is the gameplay.

TT2 features some slick fighting at a constant frame-rate. This version of Tekken features a refined fighting engine allowing players to string together combos and pull of some tricky moves with relative ease. Not that the game is easy though. Difficulty ramps up as your characters rank up in ghost battle which is a continuous fighting mode similar to the arcades and the final boss will give you a run for your money. There are several customisation options for your characters which can be unlocked or purchased by spending coins you have earned fighting. Some of these costumes verge on bizarre however and most players will find themselves sticking to default costumes to avoid embarassment playing online.

The graphics engine is slick and smooth featuring high definition models and backgrounds which can also be destroyed by smashing your opponents through the barriers of the level. Some levels are so detailed they can detract from the action but I think this is a compliment rather than a fault to mark the game down with. The fighters are varied (for the most of the time) and interesting and I have found myself branching out from my usual characters to try some new fighting styles.

Sound is a little bit of a let down mainly because of the music. It's the usual dub-step heavy rock affair but I would have loved to hear more of a focus on themed music for the levels. That being said, the finishing movie scenes are amusing to watch and feature high production values.

The Wii U Difference

Why yes that is Mario punching a ball into Koopers face

The main differences on the Wii U version are as follows...

Pro-
Interesting Character costume crossovers allow you to play dressed as Starfox, Link and more.
Off screen play is supported and handy when your wife watches "The Notebook"
Tekken Ball (pictured above) is an exclusive feature.
Mushrooms battles are amusing.
All DLC characters and costumes included for free!

Against-
Playing on the Wii U gamepad is clunky.
Limited pool of online players.

If you haven't already played Tekken Tag 2 and have a Wii U, then grab it on this format, be warned though, the price on the PS3 and 360 will be cheaper (I haven't factored in DLC costs.)

So What's It Like?

Hmmm, comsidering costume choices and characters I would say
Old school Tekken + Street Fighter (Combos) + Coomera fashion sense = Tekken Tag 2
I give it 8/10

Well I'm off to get my face punched in by a panda bear!

Coming Soon

What's it Like future content!

*Future sailors not included

Hello gamers! Just wanted to get a quick post in to tell you about content we are currently working on.

Today our copy of "Hyrule Historia" has come in the mail so expect a review on that in the next few days. This is an amazing book that thankfully has been translated with the help of Dark Horse Comics and features concept art and clears up the Zelda series timeline!

Also to help deliver more content we will have some more experienced gamers joining our team over the next week or two.

A new segment will also be added called "Flashback Fridays" which will be dedicated to reviewing games of the past on a weekly basis.
*not all of them were classics

We will be also working to help bring competitions with unique prizes to keep things interesting and a regular timeslot where readers can game together in certain games.

So why the update? Well, turns out What's it Like is kinda popular for a small time site nearing 300 individual site views and around 45 "likes" on Facebook which may not seem like much but since the site is less than a week old these are good numbers!

So gamers, I have a huge favour to ask... If you like the site, jump onto Facebook and share the page with your friends! Also while you're on Facebook, Why not comment on this post on our FB page and tell us what you want to see on What's it Like!

I would like to send a big thank-you to all our readers and due to the outstanding support you have given, we will try our best to deliver more content for you to read!

Will You Be My Player Two?

With Valentines day approaching, many of us will be frantically searching for the perfect gift for the special person in our lives. It has got me thinking about how my wife is my co-op partner, always ready to be by my side in whether it be fighting the locust horde in Gears of War, or making lunch for work. It may sound stupid to some, but video gaming helped cement our relationship into what it is today. Allow me to explain...

When I first met my wife, we were just kids who lived next door to each other. After getting to know her better, I found out she played video games. We started playing Goldenye and Perfect Dark on our N64's and after a while both of us had sick days home from school where we played Starcraft of 14.4k modems! One day we were playing an epic round of Starcraft when suddenly, her Protoss army destroyed my base after around 3 hours of small skirmishes. I knew at that moment, not only had she breached my base and destroyed my army, she also infiltrated my heart.

almost 15 years has passed since that day and we still game together. Sometimes, she will be giving me sniper cover in Halo, other times she will be on the front line with a Lancer cutting through some locust. There are times when she uses a smash bat on me in Smash Bros, and then times where she lets me get the fire flower in Mario.

So gamers, I want to know. Do you have a player two in your life? Tell us on the Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/SOGwhatsitlike) a romantic gaming story, or what game you love to play with your valentine. On the flipside, feel free to share with us if your valentine hates games or you hate your valentines gaming habits!

I'm off to browse the Valentines day jewellery catalogues!
