Top Ten Intro Movies in Gaming

1. Red Alert 3

This one has it all. It's got B-grade acting, celebrity cameos, and George Takei as an evil emperor. Sure, the first part may drag on, but who can deny that Tim Curry wouldn't make a good premier of the soviet union?

2. Resident Evil 2

The Playstation 1 gave birth to the CGI cutscene and this was one of the first ones I saw. Leon goes into town and zombies ruin his first day on the job. He also hand a complete stranger a firearm, throwing police training to the wind.

3. Final Fantasy 8

Well readers of the old "What's it like" will know I have a certain soft spot for this one. FF8 CGI intro was a fantastic montage of things to come. It starts of nice and calm at the beach while a chior sings the "Liberi Fatalis." Superb.

4. Company of Heroes

COH is still regarded as one of the leading RTS games to date. The intro sets the pace following a heroic sergeant charging Normandy beach, Half way through it smoothly transitions to gameplay graphics and by the end casually zooms out to its overhead view.

5. Gran Turismo 5

From mining, smelting and construction, GT5's intro shows a car being built from a piece of metal ore to a crazy piano tune. Once the car is completed, we are treated to My Chemical Romance belting out while we watch some of the finest car porn out there.

6. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Not many people know about this series, but this intro should cover it. You play a hunter fighting dinosaurs and dragons in a game that's as difficult as Dark Souls. Beautiful CGI shows the living habitat in which the game takes place, followed by the eerie shadow of a nightmare to come.

7. World Of Warcraft

Blizzard are renowned for making amazing CGI intros and World of Warcraft is no different. The intro shows of the classes and impressive locales of the game. So much detail is present including individual hair strands on characters.

8. Lego City Undercover

This is a fun one. A great way to set the pace on this underrated game. Slapstick humor is used so frequently and shamelessly as it sets itself up for a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. One for a good laugh.

9. Xmen Origins Wolverine

This game was a fantastic example of how to do a movie game. Shame it didn't sell too well. The Clip is a bit violent but shows action a plenty as Wolverine cuts his way through his enemies.

10. Super Smash Brothers Melee

Pure Nintendo Nostalgia overload! I remember first booting up my Gamecube to this CGI intro (Something missing from previous consoles.) The first scene showing Mario come to life made my inner child jump for joy. There's something special about seeing your old favorite characters come to life to beat the snot out of each other.
